FAQ's

What replacement bulb can I use?

You should only use the replacement bulb included with the set or as indicated on the package.

What is the input current to the product?

It is marked on the white cord tag located adjacent to the plug. It is usually located in a line that reads 120V, 60HZ, X.X A where X.X A equals the input current in Amps. For example 120V, 60HZ, 0.02A would have an input current of 0.02 Amps (20milliAmps). This is the current for a typical 60lt LED set.

How many watts does the product use?

This is equal to the input current (see above for determination) multiplied by 120. For example, for a set with 0.02A input current, the wattage would be 0.02 x 120 = 2.4 Watts. So the input wattage is 2.4 Watts.

How do I determine the operating cost of the lights?

Take the wattage calculated above times the number of sets you are using and divide this number by 1,000 (kilowatts) then multiply it by the number of hours used by your hourly utility kilowatt rate (found on your bill).

For example: 2.4 watts x 2 sets / 1000 x $0.10 per kilowatt-hour = $0.0005 (fractions of a cent) per hour for 2 sets.

Can I put other covers on the bulbs or over the product?

NO - if provided with covers only use the included covers with the set, or you may cause personal injury or a fire hazard.

Why do the instructions sheets say not to use the lights on trees made of metal or with leaves or needles made of metal? Does this mean I cannot use them on artificial trees?

This is a marking required by UL (safety testing lab), and is intended to warn against the use of lights on the old style silver metal trees that had metal needles as this can be dangerous. Artificial trees with PVC or Mylar needles are not included in this warning, so it is ok to use on these types of trees.

Will other electrical ornaments work on my set?

We do not recommend the use of any electrical ornaments on LED sets.

Why does the product have a warning about lead?

The State of California requires that all products that contain lead in them (even if trace amounts) have this warning. For additional information on lead contained in wire insulation, go to the “The National Lead Information Center” web site (US EPA) at http://www.epa.gov/opptintr/lead/nlic.htm

One bulb on my set is out. How can I fix this?

1. Unplug lights.
2. Remove bulb, reverse direction and reinsert.
3. Remove and replace bulb that is burned out with replacement bulbs originally provided with the set (see instructions on how to replace bulbs below).

My set has half the bulbs out. What can I do to fix this?

1. Firmly push each bulb into its socket as they may have worked loose during shipping (if the bulbs are loose, they break electrical contact with the set).
2. Remove each bulb (see bulb replacement instructions below) and insert it with a known good bulb (from spare bulbs provided) until the set turns on (at the same time make sure the wires on the bottom of the original and the replacement bulb are in position to make contact with the contacts in the socket). NOTE – Make sure locking tab of bulb matches locking tab of socket to ensure proper polarity (LED’s are polarity sensitive).

All the lights are out. What can I do?

1. Check the outlet by plugging another light or appliance into it to make sure power is present at the outlet.
2. If power is present at the outlet after checking step 1, do the following:

For all Sets:
A. Unplug string, make sure the maximum number of strings doesn't exceed maximum allowed by checking the cord tag near the end connector (white tag with black print at end of string), the maximum number of sets is typically 3 connected end to end.
B. If it does have more than the maximum number connected end to end, disconnect enough sets so that the maximum is not exceeded, then check the fuses in the first or second set as it is most likely blown (see instructions for fuse replacement below).
C. Blown fuses typically have darkened glass, or the wire inside the glass is broken.
D. Replace with spare fuse(s) that was included in a plastic bag with the set (or purchase a replacement fuse whose rating matches the replacement marking on the plug, (typically 3 Amps).
WARNING: Do not put a 5A fuse in a set that should use only a 3A fuse as this will overload and overheat the wires causing a possible risk of fire or electric shock.
E. If fuse(s) blows again, replace entire string.

If the fuses are good:
A. Firmly push each bulb into its socket as they may have worked loose during shipping (if the bulbs are loose, they break electrical contact with the set).
B. Remove each bulb (see bulb replacement instructions below) and insert it with a known good bulb (from spare bulbs provided) until the set turns on (at the same time make sure the wires on the bottom of the original and the replacement bulb are in position to make contact with the contacts in the socket).

For 60lt sets only:

How do I replace bulbs?

If available, please follow the bulb replacement instructions provided on the instruction sheet of the original product, as they are the most accurate for your set. If not available, use the following instructions:

Only use the replacement bulbs included with the set. Make sure you match the locking clip of the replacement bulb with the locking clip of the socket.

1. Grasp plastic base of burned out bulb and pull upward while holding socket firmly.
2. To remove bulb plastic base - straighten out copper wires extending through holes of base and pull bulb from base.
3. With a new bulb - align copper wires to holes of base, push bulb into base and bend wires back into place.
4. To replace bulb into the set - align plastic base of bulb with oblong hole in socket and push until firmly seated.

How do I replace the fuse?

If available, please follow the fuse replacement instructions provided on the instruction sheet with the original product, as they are the most accurate for your set. If not available, use the following instructions:

1. Make sure light set is unplugged. Do not unplug by pulling cord.
2. Confirm fuse size and rating matches original fuse.
3. Disconnect additional sets before replacing fuse.
4. Open fuse cover by sliding open access cover on top of attachment plug towards blades. Use of insulated screwdriver may be required.
5. Remove fuse carefully and replace with same rating/size fuse.
6. Completely close fuse cover by sliding access cover, if access cover has latches, push cover closed so tabs latch.
7. If fuse continues to blow, discard product. Do not modify fuse holder to make replacement fuse fit.
